I hear you guys bad mouthing our system a lot online. Why? We Canucks love our system. I have had a total of ten surgeries covered under OHIP (Ontario health onsurance plan). I love our healthcare to death.. It's the best thing about being Canadian. Why do you guys try to bring it down?

I sure don't. I'd give anything to have a Canada-style heath care system. Rep points to the OP.

I can't believe some people are calling a supporter of one of the finest health care systems in the world a "troll." Shame on them.

You have to be more familiar with that person's comment history. It's some nonsense from another thread where she was up against everyone else because of her attitude aboot it.

I think there is an element of jealousy honestly. Who WANTS to pay out of their pocket for something that should be a human right?

Because they know nothing about it, and have been systematically lied to about it for decades by a hugely powerful USA pressure group that has literally trillions of dollars to lose if Americans ever embraced a plan similar to Canada's.

And due to the parochial insularity of the American people, Americans are only slightly more interested in or knowledgeable about Canada than they are about Togo or Tonga.

Why do Americans like to pretend they know so much more about Canadian healthcare than they do? And why does everyone claim to have "family in Canada" dying on waiting lists... First of all less than 1% of Canadians have U.S family ties and no Canadian is "dying" on waiting lists.

I don't believe that healthcare is a "human right", but I do believe that universal healthcare, preferably similar to that administered under two-tiered systems in the Netherlands, Germany and Australia, is the most practical way to handle health coverage in terms of both practicality and cost.

I don't particularly care for the Canadian model myself, but it's quite funny how misinformed most Americans are about how it functions, regardless of whether or not they agree with it. For being one of the best examples of the single-payer model in the world, it's pretty amazing how de-centralized it actually is.

I think a lot of people who aren't under our system believes it welfare or free. It is NOT free..in fact the reason it's funded is because every level of society puts into the system..+ those making more than 20,000.00 a year NET..has to pay a surtax according to the scale provided in your return.

Then, of course many things have been de-regulated ( uncovered) unless it's proven by physician forms as NECESSARY.....i.e. Cosmetic Surgery in general NOT covered..However if required due to accident or injury and lack of repairs impacts patient significantly in order to function in society..within reason of course..Doesn't mean in order to function as a Stripper with Big Boobs LOL

A lot of bashing is from those that either don't even know what it is nor it's benefits BUT Judge it by how it's demonized ..and drink the Koolaide ..SMH The only problem some complain about is some of the wait times for some things..BUT believe me..NO ONE has to wait if it's a life threatening issue..I know..working in ER's for over 25 years..saw many back doored into the hospital by Family Doctors and Surgeons when patients became URGENT!!

This is in no way like those down in US who don't have coverage simply don't bother seeking medical assessment or care early on for health issues because THEY have no insurance. So, only get Emergency Care when HC Issue gets desperate ..or life threatening...THEN the only one's who end up paying for it is the Taxpayers..NOT any Insurance Company...It's finally changing somewhat with ACA ..as now they can't overcharge or deny coverage ..and Taxpayer's get some respite from paying for ER visits for those who could have gone to Family Practice..seen by specialist in office for proper assessments and treatment...It's so easy to Bash something when nothing is actually known about it and what they say they know is NOT Factual But BS screamed by Fear mongers....

Biggest fears expressed when I was discussing prior to ACA ever getting passed..was the fear of Government making HC decisions about your care...NOPE..Your Physician does that...NO Government intrusion of those decisions..Yet after 5+ years American Politicians/ bloggers are still trying to spread such nasty fear mongering...ala ACA is going to KILL you..It's worse than Nazi Germany Defund Defund Defund/Close down Government (Cruz, of course) cost taxpayer multi-millions of dollars and citizens loss of wages. ...Between Bachmann, Cruz and Carson..just some of the worst offenders!!

I guess I can sit back and SMH and not bother talking to their hand because I know I will never ever lose everything I worked for my whole life because of a catastrophic illness, accident or long even a long term Health issue....
