Cincinnati. Cool old buildings. Cool churches. Modern skyline. Everything is squashed between the bluffs and the river. The Nasty Nati hosts a neat South-meets-East Coast-meets-Midwest kinda style.
St. Paul, Minnesota has the country's largest collection of Victorian homes along Grand Avenue. It also is home to an amazing cathedral, the Capitol, and some art deco buildings downtown.
Indianapolis has some cool monuments around town.
Buffalo has cool architecture, but the downtown area could use a little TLC.
Asheville NC has one of the the largest collections of Art-Deco commercial architecture in the US, and the largest in the Southeast outside of Miami's South Beach.
Galena, IL. Its talked about in IL, but not much elsewhere. Ridiculous amounts of varying architecture, all on the National Historic Register. Beautiful little town!
Surprising how few people know about the art-deco architecture of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Quite an impressive way to spend a few hours, even if you're not into that sort of thing. The art-deco district is a quiet walkable area, no parking problems, just park on the street and feed the meter. While you're in the vicinity, you can also see Frank Lloyd Wrights's only skyscraper, in nearby Bartlesville,, Oklahoma. In between, is also the strange city of Pawhuska, which flourished briefly as the richest city, per capita, in the USA.
Lexington, KY has a lot of great examples of Victorian architecture, and seems to fly under the radar a lot. Dubuque, Iowa also has some good Classic architecture and doesn't have much notoriety for it.
