I'm trying to go with what the OP was trying to accomplish (at least from what I gather), in that when people see the SOL, they immediately think of New York. I'm sure there are many other monuments in New York that many would recognize, but I would imagine this stands out the most recognizable landmark for people globally.

No, the question is "What Man-Made Structure Represents Each City?" I am a New Yorker, born and raised, and I say Yankee Stadium is. How can someone 2,000 miles from here tell me what the symbol of my city is? Maybe out west people see more photos of things like the ESB, but in New York, we think of the Yankees. We're proud and we're fanatics of our teams.

Terminal Tower likely represents Cleveland the best. It was essentially their signature structure for a long time. However, Key Tower may have replaced that role, as it is has given the Cleveland skyline a much bolder and more powerful look to it. As for St. Louis, unquestionably the Arch. New York...the Empire State Building, at one time the WTC, and the future man-made structure that will best represent NYC is Freedom Tower. For Seattle, likely the Space Needle...for San Francisco I would think the Pyramid or Golden Gate Bridge.

If a baseball stadium is what best represents a city, then I feel sorry for that city. Not everyone in NYC follows baseball or thinks the Yankees are the best team.
New York city has much better icons that represent what a great city it is.

Gooey butter cake is a made made structure that represents St. Louis.

The strong essence, allurance, history, glory, and the legends that stood on that diamond is amazing. Sports are a way of life here. Baseball is a culture. Every night I salute the Yankees flag in my room and grope the Yankees plaque like Roger Clemens before my baseball games.

-Homer Alert-

I think DC can give New York a run for its money for having the most iconic structures.

The White House
Washington Monument
Lincoln Memorial
Vietnam Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
U.S. Capitol
The Pentagon
Iwo Jima Memorial (Arlington Cemetary)
