Excuse me, it is not the "Great Lakes". It is "The Great Lakes".

Looks like the thread title is wrong then!

Yes, but your statement that the "Gulf Coast" should be the "Third Coast" sounded way sillier.

Care to explain why? The Gulf Coast is the third saltwater coast. It's neither East nor West. It's part of the Atlantic but is not the East Coast. We could call it the South Coast but that wasn't the term in question I was replying to.

It already has a name - the GULF Coast. Why would it need another? Would you take away the "Gulf Coast" and name it the "Third Coast?" I think not.

And the Great Lakes already have a name - the Great Lakes.

Seriously, good grief. The OP's question is "Which "coast" term do you prefer for the Great Lakes region?" NOT, what name should we give the Great Lakes. If you can't understand this, I'm going to have to be done.

No need to flip out - I simply shared that IMO the Gulf should be referred to as the "Third Coast" before the Lakes. It's been discussed on other threads before, I'm not pulling this out of nowhere. It is my opinion that the Lakes should not be referred to as a coast and their collective name is just fine. And 33 other people agree with me, while 11 prefer "Third Coast."

"North Coast", maybe, but I don't like "Third" for the Lakes. Given the other two coasts are oceans/saltwater, it would make sense if the "Third" was also.

Well, that's just dandy. The Gulf Coast already exists, and it's interesting how you now called it the "Gulf" instead of the Gulf Coast, as in your other posts. Not flipping out, but not understanding why you're so afraid.

Sorry I wanted to shorten it. I also started saying just "Lakes."

Haha! Afraid of what??
