My fiance and i are looking to move to a rural area, with lots of space. (perferably acres) and we're looking for affordable. we're looking for either a house with lots of space or land that we can build on.

also, ATV friendly and trees, wilderness and such. hopefully within an hour or two from a major town or city, because we'd work at a hospital as RN's

we were considering west virginia, wisconsin, wyoming, north carolina etc. but we're not entirely sure.....any ideas? we just want some idea's to consider....

We're hoping to find a state with all 4 seasons, but its not that important.

any advice/ suggestions will be appreciated *^.^*

Well, all 4 states you listed would fit the bill well I suppose, depending where you live in the state. SW WI has wonderful wilderness, lots of ATV and snowmobile trails, deep woods, nice hills, 4 seasons, etc. NC has that stuff too, but larger mountains and milder seasons. WY is the most open of the 4, with real mountains and 4 seasons too, not humid like the east coast or south. West Virginia looks kinda like NC, but alot less populated.

Personally, I live in Missouri and it's pretty spacious. The closest major city to "spacious" depends on how you define major city.

And Missouri is pretty affordable.

We have all 4 seasons obviously. You could probably get a few decent acres within an hour or two of St. Louis, Kansas City, or Springfield. Those are the 3 largest cities I think.

A major city to us is a population of 50,000 and up.

PS: I'm the fiance.

Cape Girardeau, Missouri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cape Girardeau has some nice hospitals, but the city's only about 35,000.
Areas around Springfield, Joplin, Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia, and Jefferson City areas may be large enough for you. Any of those areas you should be able to get a few acres within an hour or so of a major city. And there are parks all over the state, so you should be able to find places to hike and stuff just about anywhere.

I live an hour-and-a-half from Cape Girardeau and I live across the street from horses, and I have friends who live half-a-mile from their nearest neighbors.

WI has really high property taxes, which may be daunting if you want a lot of land. NC can also get pricey.

Wyoming could be a good choice though (look around Laramie; the college town atsmophere provides the opportunity for entertainment when you want it). Also look at eastern Montana (the Billings area is pretty affordable).

Check out the area around Bangor, ME. Eastern Maine Medical Center is located in Bangor and is part of a large group; there are tons of outdoor activities, definitely 4 seasons; northern Maine is less expensive living than southern Maine (significantly less) and, while taxes are high, they are not as high as in WI (our current and short term location).

Nurses can find work just about anywhere so you really can write your own ticket.
