What are some great beaches and general waterfronts along the Great Lakes? The coastline of the Great Lakes is massive and runs a pretty wide gamut, so what are some of your favorites? Pics appreciated.

Perhaps not the best place for swimming or sunbathing but it's awfully pretty

Lake Michigan, in general. Western Michigan (lots of dunes), and many beaches from Chicago through Racine and Milwaukee on up into Door County. Forget about the west side of Green Bay from GB up through Gladstone, MI, though - mostly swampy, with a few stretches of sand here and there.

Some WI favorites are Rock Island State Park & Whitefish Dunes (Door County), Point Beach (Manitowoc Co), Kohler-Andrae (Sheboygan Co), Harrington (Ozaukee Co), and urban beaches like Bradford in Milwaukee and North in Racine. Obviously, there are lots more, especially in Door County.

For Lake Superior, well, it has many many great beaches, but it's really cold, even for me. I've been to some protected harbors in late summer (during a hot summer) that make it a reasonable proposition, but it's a rarity. Presque Isle Beach in the UP up by the Huron Mountains is beautiful, remote, and barely used (considering everything). Port Wing WI has a nice beach on the quiet side of the Bayfield Peninsula, but doesn't get the dramatic Apostle Islands view of some of the beaches around the east side.

The nicest I've seen are on those islands in northwest lake Michigan, from Beaver Island and islands nearby:

Better for boating, fishing, scenic getaway and then actually swimming or suntanning. The water is clear and turquoise but cold.

The water is just fine. Been in Lake Michigan countless times. And the fishing is better in inland lakes and rivers, generally, than in the Lake. Depends on what you're looking for, obviously, but most people do their fishing inland.

The best I've seen are the Lake Michigan beaches just west of St. Ignace, Michigan.
