Yeah. For Houston CSA, you have Waller (where Prairie View is at) and Washington Counties. Outside of Brenhem, these counties are rural and they have blacks all throughout both areas.
Greater New York CSA should be in the Top 3 for sure.
1. Greater New York CSA: 4,310,356
2. Greater Washington D.C.-Baltimore CSA: 2,465,004
3. Greater Atlanta CSA: 2,007,107
These are the only three major metropolises in the country that have over 2 million people that are Black and/or African American solely.
Other huge centers for Black people in the United States are Greater Chicago CSA (1,702,629), Greater Philadelphia CSA (1,473,815), Greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale CSA (1,389,445), Greater Los Angeles CSA (1,377,341), Greater Houston CSA (1,186,148), Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex CSA (1,118,685), and Greater Detroit CSA (1,109,168).
These are the only areas in the United States that have exceeded 1 million Black people to my personal knowledge. All numbers are 100% accurate and current with the 2014 populations and demographics as released by the census bureau earlier this week.
You can check the work by adding up the individual counties in a CSA yourself, you'll need the census information:
Given that Greater New York CSA has 4.3 million Black people, it is an absolute albatross that it is out of the Top 3 on any list. I would argue its number one in the whole country, percentages or no percentages, it has the direct raw numbers for it.
Idk about NYC since the metro area has like 20 million people. Nyc by raw numbers will win any category but does it feel like the black mecca walking down the street in the city?
Based on feel, which is very subjective I would say :
1. Atlanta
2. DC
3. Definitely a toss up between Houston, Miami, DFW, Detroit
7. Philadelphia
8. New York
9. Chicago
10. Los Angeles
Areas like New Orleans, Baltimore, Louis, Memphis... used to be right up there, and in terms of feel and percent population they still are. More than most on the list.

I know it's your opinion but I don't know about Houston, Miami and LA. Especially Miami and LA
You can't use raw numbers in this argument, because as someone else said, New York will beat any city in the nation with that argument...
I'll say this, DC and Atlanta are the consensus top 2. I would probably put Houston at 3. After that, it gets messy, but it's a travesty no one has mentioned Charlotte, which for my money is 4 or 5. Charlotte is an outstanding city for blacks. Raleigh-Durham and Hampton Roads are definitely in the Top 10, no question...
The toughest thing here is differentiating between legacies and present. Memphis has a deep legacy for blacks, but I wouldn't say it is one of the best cities to be black in. Maybe Memphis, Detroit, and Baltimore all make the Top 10, but are towards the back end because of where those cities are now...
New York and Chicago and LA may sneak in as well, because sheer number has an unmistakeable culture, but neither are really known as pro-black cities overall. Oakland deserves a mention too, but the black population is in serious decline there, as well....
NYC is easily on the elite tier for blacks along with DC and Atlanta. The primary knock against NYC is affordability. The discussion starts with what city is at #4. I'd still rank Chicago up there but falling as Houston, Dallas and Charlotte are rising.
I'm somewhat puzzled at how some are easily dismissing NYC here. Sure it's a top city for just about everybody, but it's NYC. It's in the top three without question from my perspective.
I thought this thread was about the best US Cities for African-Americans to live in.
Why are people coming up with high crime cities like New Orleans, Memphis, St.Louis, Detroit and Baltimore

I agree racial integration seems leagues ahead in NYC vs most other cities.
