The only real pest problem I've encountered here in the Twin Cities is mice. Otherwise, I've never once in my 30 years of living here seen a rat, a cockroach, termites, or really any other kind of vermin typical in other parts of the country.
There is a definite problem with house centipedes, though. Makes my skin crawl thinking about it.
Interesting. My city has the 7th worst mouse infestation in the nation. I'm currently battling an issue with mice inside of my own house, finding droppings in several places including on my bed, about 2cm from my pillow! It's absolutely disgusting to say the least...

Rochester, NY? I hope you get that issue taken care of ASAP. Mice are gross!

Centipedes are the "wolves" of the insect world, though, and while they're creepy, they take care of insect pests at a high rate.
Never really noticed roaches or mice in Chicago, although I have seen rats running around in the alleys. I really don't care about them, they don't attack. I make sure to bait and take care of problems where they burrow near the foundations of buildings.
I'm guessing Chicago's rat % is lower because the rats aren't INSIDE the buildings due to the fact everything on the ground floor is mostly brick and stone construction. They're around the building in nests.
In New Orleans there's numerous uninhabited dwellings where you'll find a considerable rat population living under the same roof with a considerable bat population in perfect harmony. Rats in New Orleans are known to climb up concrete walls like bats also.
Interesting article! I feel bad for New Orleans though, that town can't catch a break coming or going. New York did better than I expected for sure. I see rats all over the place here. I was surprised to see that the roach problem is bigger in southern cities than in northern cities. I know where I live up north we certainly have roaches. I know about "palmetto" bugs bud did not realize it was a worse situation there.
I'm honestly shocked NYC isn't #1 in every category.
