Maybe you didn't noticed, but President Barack Obama changed the name of Mount McKinley to Mount Denali. Apparently, the 'new' name isn't new at all. Denali is how the indigenous tribes of Alaska knew the mountain as and that was the 'official' name until in the late 1890's it was renamed in honor of President William McKinley.

More info: Mount McKinley Will Again Be Called Denali

What do you think about this?

It's a red herring. Alaskans have wanted it changed for 40 years but the Ohio delegation to DC has blocked every attempt to do so. McKinley never set foot in Alaska and the mountain was given his name before he was even elected president.

This is nothing new, Denali national park has been around for awhile. We took so much from the indigenous people already, why not give them this one small gesture.

Good grief, some Ohioans need to get a grip. This mountain has nothing to do with McKinley or Ohio. The original name is Denali, and our President did the right thing.

If Nantucket's name was changed to Bush Island or Clinton Island, I'd want it to be changed back.

Probably not correct to bring up the famous Nantucket poem right now. Especially when it is mentioned in the same post with Clinton.

McKinley was a crap President, anyway. I actually thought it was already officially Denali until the recent hubbub...lots of this is adults unwilling to unlearn things like Pluto's planetary slotting or whatever.

Imagine if some of these same people had to unlearn "under God" that was added to the pledge of allegiance back in the cold war. Want to talk about hysterical reactions.....

Certain folks certainly didn't let facts get in the way when they went berserk over this.
