Long story made short, I had some recent minor ear surgery. Nothing serious, but I am grounded from flying for 3 months. Over the last couple of days, a very unique business opportunity has presented itself for me, but requires me to be in New Jersey no later than 1pm on Monday 10/5.

I could leave Austin, TX as early as tomorrow Saturday 10/3 at 1pm. So 48 hours to get there. Google maps says it is about 24 hrs of driving.

I am one of those people that doesn't mind road trips and lots of driving, although I am usually doing it for personal travel with family, so more relaxed. This would definitely be gas /food/rest stops only. I would not be rushed on the way back, its all about making the meeting.

Just curious if anyone has ever driven from Texas to NJ before, and if you think its doable within 2 days, including gas, food, and some rest stopping.

At the end of a long trip, I once drove (almost) straight from LA to Austin, with only a short rest stop break where I slept for about 3 hours. I think I drove about 15 hours that day. I would call that my maximum safe driving hours.

My math says that I can probably make it work, but I wanted to get other options. thanks!

You probably could, the thing to do would be to get a buddy to go with you though so you can switch drivers and sleep. Doing 24h by yourself in one shot is dangerous, you'll probably be hallucinating by the end.

thanks! With 48 hours of elapsed time available, but only 24 hours of driving needed, don't you think I will have adequate time to sleep a few hours at a roadside hotel or restop? There is no way that I would ever attempt to drive 24 hours straight without sleep. I have done 15 before and I believe that to be my safe limit.

Getting a buddy to go is probably unrealistic. Most of my buddies work and wont be able to take what will end up being a week long trip with this short of notice. Will be a solo trip.

I drove from Cuddebackville, NY to Lake Havasu City, AZ in 48 hours about 2528 miles back October 2002 in my 4 cylinder, Daewoo. I took 2 catnaps along the way. So you can do Austin, TX to Newark, NJ.

I drove I think 28 hours without sleep. It was hell. I was seeing zombies at the end of the trip and my eyes we're sinking in.

Don't risk it. I drove from Houston to Tampa years ago, and actually remember closing my eyes due to falling asleep, but fortunately some higher force woke me up. I can't guarantee that would ever happen again.

Easy. I used to drive from OKC to Cleveland, about 16 hours, straight through. I was younger, though. You might wanna drive 12 hours, pull in a rest stop or hotel for some sleep, then the other 12. 36 hours total.

I would never spend that much time and effort driving across country to end up in Newark, NJ.

Did you buy a winning lottery ticket at a Newark gas station?

What kind of unique and exciting business opportunities does Newark have that Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin don't?
