Vocal fry is the linguistic term pertaining to speakers who annunciate the late last syllabus of a word with a bit of a crackly rasp.

Is this phenomenon more common in one region of the country over others?

This is a better example of vocal fry combined with a northern cities vowel shift accent.

Sounds northern bourgeois to me??
In WrongTurnville, they put strong emphasis on the first syllable of every word, it seems to me.
PO lice
IN surance
THE atre
etc . . .

I like different accents. It seems the whole country is becoming so homogenized accents are going away.
