What cities would you say have the least distinct regional culture and seem just "plain American"? My votes would be for Northern Virginia, parts of Florida, and parts of California.

Curious as to how you chose Tampa. It has more character than other cities I can think of with some beautiful areas in/around downtown such as historic Ybor City, Channelside, the U of Tampa campus and South Tampa's Hyde Park. Orlando would be more an appropriate choice with not a whole lot going for it other than "the Mouse".

I love Tampa. Tampa Heights was the last neighborhood I stayed in. I can't understand why it would even be on this list. Not plain American at all. Orlando would be Plain American. I picked Arlington/Alexandria.

Odd choice for adding Alexandria as it has its own very unique setting and urban look. It was a city before Washington DC and is much more historic than the rest of NOVA. Arlington is much more generic but still that is only in parts because Arlington is an entire county. The OP should have just said NOVA as a whole but excluded Alexandria.

Out of these four probably Tampa, but none of them really strike me as having a generic culture. My vote would go to Orlando and the Sunbelt cities of the Southwest.

That's a random list to choose from-I think Orlando should be on the list, it is much more generic than Tampa and is only on the map because it had tons of cheap swampland for Mr. Disney to build his empire.

And this list is incomplete without Charlotte, NC on it. I lived in NC for 15 years and like many cities there, but CLT has no soul.

Something tells me you know little about Grand Rapids, regardless of whether or not it is generic.
