Since we have somebody trying to sell us that Ohio is a Northeastern state, and viciously attacking anyone who disagrees with him, I thought id put in a poll to see if Ohio is Northeastern or Midwestern. Let's settle this issue once and for all. Ohio: Northeast or Midwest?

The Eastern half of the state is more East Coast like. The Western half is more Midwest like. Youngstown is more like Pennsylvania than the Midwest. Cleveland is borderline. Athens is basically West Virginia. Columbus, Dayton and Toledo are Midwest. Cincinnati is basically Kentucky.

The short answer is: it's complicated; and that's why Cleveland is the nation's political bellwether.

Never EVER heard Ohio being considered an East Coast state not even ONE City. Get out of here with that.
I never spent any real time in Ohio just passing through. Everyone I met has that midwestern accent.

Virginia is a state that is different. NOVA, West part of Virginia, and SouthEastern are very different. Central VA I want to say is different but, not like the other three.

Cleveland is Northeastern-esque, everywhere else is distinctly Midwestern (although old/first-wave Midwestern).

Ohio is about as northeastern as Florida....Look at a freaking map, its Midwest. Maybe Cleveland has minor NE qualities but the state as a whole no way.

When Garrison Keillor did his show in Cincinnati a few years ago, he got a big laugh with this line:

"Ohio... a midwestern state, except for Cleveland which is in the east."

Ohio is the grey border between the Mid Atlantic, the South, the Midwest, and Canada. There is a small stream just east of Columbus that determines the true border. On the eastern bank there are rude Northeastern types with no family values. On the western bank there are strong midwest accents and even stronger family values and super nice folks. Upstream you will find a Tim Hortons and several groups of kids playing hockey. Downstream you will find a fella picking on a banjo and making moonshine while humming hymns.

Its not that hard...
