Massachusetts by a landslide. I have been to all states you asked about, and, given what I am used to and the fact that I wouldn't want much of a change, MA is a no brainer.

NC was too rural and Southern for me (so many guns and ammo shops. so many. and so close together sometimes.), VA outside of the DC area is the same, and TX is just too much of everything IMHO. In your face Texas-ness, rather conservative, and hot. Overall nice (for all states), nice people, this isn't meant to be a dig at all, just my honest opinion.

Lived in Texas for 3 years. Not impressed
Now living in NOVA for the past 6 months. Loving it!
Lived in NC for a year. Didn't love Charlotte at all. But, somewhere in NC could possibly be a contender for retirement.
MA. No interest

Basically, I love Virginia and unless a job takes me away, I'm here long term. When NOVA gets on my nerves, there's always Richmond(which I am growing to love) to fall back on.

North Carolina! It's where I just moved to a few months ago, and would still choose it over the rest.

Virginia hands down. All the other states listed are cool , but they dont beat VA in my opinion. I particularly like the Richmond and Norfolk areas
