I've been to Cancun 4 times now. The only Spanish phrase I know is "Cerveza, por favor" and I never had a problem. Every staff member you encounter will speak English, except maybe the maids.

As for gang/drug violence, it's pretty much non-existent. The Cancun hotel zone is heavily protected and restricted. You're more likely to be a victim of a crime in most US cities. Oh, and the drinking water is fine there too.

The US has no where except Hawaii with sure bet summer weather in winter. One arctic blast and your FL vacation is ruined. And yes, Florida gets arctic blasts.

You have to go to the Caribbean for summer weather in winter. The US mainland has no place for winter getaways to enjoy summer weather.

I second this. I've been over 30 times (I used to go for work monthly), and it is very safe - even away from the Hotel Zone.

Quantana Roo may be the safest State in the Country, and the Government sees to it. This is one of, if not the largest economic engines of Mexico.

This applies to areas outside of the Hotel Zone, including Cozumel and the entire Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya area.

Go. You wont regret it.

researched cancun it looks exstatic, along with white sand beaches. it fells bit outside my range, 4 days for 1200$ for decent hotel, i see half of the cost is due to flight from bay area (western US) and i am wondering anything similar can be found/recommended on western mexico? I am looking for tropical setting with shallow water white sand beach not too crowded noisy part and not too isolated but tend to be bit secluded. That would be paradise.

Thanks.,

Consider Huatulco on the Pacific coast:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huatulco

HUX Huatulco airport

(HUX) Huatulco Airport

Huatulco is another Mexican government resort like Cancun. I've been to both and the vibes are totally different - Huatulco was very laid back. The sand was more like San Diego sand instead of white sand. The seawater was safe to swim in, unlike Acapulco.
