Dry heat IMO is more tolerable than "wet heat". Spent some time in a New Orleans summer and I had to say it was unbearable. But don't underestimate the dry heat though... ABQ sounds like a good option weather-wise I agree.

Have you looked at Tulsa? It is a bit more diverse than it was back in the '80s oil bust. It is also a large center for accounting with Verizon and Enterprise Rental Car having large accounting offices here. State Farm is also moving some of the jobs back to Tulsa that they moved away a few years ago. We do get a snowstorm or two every year and the summer weather is not as oppressive as New Orleans or Florida. Not much for mountains here but there are plenty of lakes in Oklahoma and good hiking in NW Arkansas. The music scene is good and getting better as Austin rents and zoning are driving away musicians and into Oklahoma. We have decent museums and are building a world class park just outside downtown.
