Alaska/Hawaii are generally prettier than the other choices. Never been to the US Virgin Islands but I have been to Hawaii(Maui & the Big Island) and Puerto Rico. I found Hawaii to be considerably more dramatic than Puerto Rico and the heat is easier to escape from with the changes in altitude in Hawaii, I love the cities that are in the "high country" in Hawaii. Not sure about the other choices, they look quite picturesque though but very small.
With that being said, I found Puerto Ricans generally nicer than Hawaiians. Hawaii and Puerto Rico are so different with each having different qualities to bring to the table. So for me it's a toss-up in the end. I'd also like to say that Juneau has a stunning setting even with the current choices but I just not sure... I'll take Hawaii then it's between Alaska/Puerto Rico, note that I hate tropical weather though.
Agreed. Hawaii has the beauty, but PR has the people and culture that are so easy to love. And the food!
Been to 44 states, but not AK or HI. So, voted for the only place listed that I have visited and liked: USVI. It does have a very high crime rate. I believe BVI's is lower.
I've never been to any of the choices except HI on a one day layover.
If you're talking about live in for one year, I think I could do HI, AK, PR, American Samoa and Guam. If it's living for much much longer time frame then probably just HI, possibly PR as well. Why? I need big city feel, cultural amenities, and excellent diversity of food. HI and PR have that for sure but with PR I'd need to adjust to a very different culture. Interesting question!
