Williamsburg may have a "Midwestern vibe." Only 1.7% of Brooklynites were born in the Midwest but Williamsburg census tracts far exceed the average.

517 - 11.7%
569 - 10.0%
557 - 9.4%
555 - 8.2%

So does Brooklyn Heights.

3.01 - 10.3%
5.01 - 20.0%

You can find the midwestern vibe in California too. San Diego, Sacramento, and Fresno specifically.

But lots of people think of the Midwest as the standard that the rest of society needs to conform to. I don't quite get it myself, possibly because I think Florida gets the worst of you guys. Some of the rudest people I meet are from Chicago and Minnesota. and Michigan loves to send its rednecks to Florida.
Well it's Florida, it tends to attract those types of people regardless of where they're from.

Interesting. You do know that Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota are consistently blue states right? Iowa was also one of the first states to legalize gay marriage.

I live in a state (AZ) that attracts the types I'm describing.

Politicians don't always reflect the electorate either

Are the Midwest and the "heartland" synonymous?

The types you're describing (bland white conservative Americana) sounds more like the Intermountain West or the Upper South/Appalachia than Midwestern.
