OMG, that'd rip my insides up. I smile way too much and I'm used to most people smiling back (though it's becoming more rare). Me and my sensitive self would probably feel personally attacked for whatever reason if people didn't smile back :P

...oh yeah, to me, when I go to the South I notice the customer service quality does go up a few notches. Hopefully they were genuine. But at least they had a ready smile, for the most part.

Whoa, people say "thanks" at convenience stores where you live? I'm loading up the U Haul!

sadly, I meant not even at the corner stores. but at the malls for the most part. whether it's a 'sincere' thank you is another thing though.

Yea but SD isn't typically thought of as part of the Bible Belt. I would imagine that's why.

I hear it sometimes but not as often as I used to. Most of the time no one says anything, just hand you a receipt and not even a thank you.

I've never had anyone say that to me. It must be a local thing. Sometimes people smile and say "thanks" but that's all.

Here in the Bay Area, I sometimes hear that in the hood because many recovering crack addicts went to religiously sponsored rehab programs and part of their therapy is to say "have a blessed day". It reminds them of how lucky they are to have made it out of that dark chapter of their lives.

Something to that affect. Someone on the train was talking about it.

I have never heard that. Most people just say thank you or have a nice day.
