Insane congestion with occasional violence. All of the quality restaurants pulled out years ago. It's barely a food festival, now.

Ethnic parades down Fifth Ave in NYC. People either hate them or love them. Folks who've paid millions to live on Fifth Ave aren't too happy during the summer, when most of these parades happen. So they go off to the Hamptons or wherever while thousands of Dominicans or Puerto Ricans or whoever take up the space and enjoy themselves along Central Park.

Wow

I'm not sure how that backstory about the posthumous Emma Crawford, as tragic and weird as it is, ties into what that event is.

Forgot all about the parades, but I guess that's because I've never had the perspective of being a millionaire living on Fifth Ave. I'm Dominican myself and have been to a couple of them (both the DR and PR parades), and they do get quite boorish, gaudy, loud and intoxicated--sometimes to the point of criminality.

Mardi Gras is a huge huge huge economic event for New Orleans, but it is such a pain to locals in that hotels, restaurants, public transit is clogged by visitors, streets get shut down, roads are clogged with people, civil services are strained, plus the area gets inundated with trash.

I am trying to think of an event that has such a huge impact on such a small land area.
