That said, the one ethnic group that I think impacts Houston more than any other (besides Mexicans) are the Vietnamese. The food and the culture has a huge impact here.
That's pretty interesting. Just out of curiosity, what about African Americans, do you feel they still have a strong cultural impact in Houston like in the past?

Yakima WA...Mexicans . They are about 50% of the population, even higher among the younger age groups.

I believe this is the most Northern city in the country with this high a % of Mexicans in the population.

For the Twin Cities it is Scandinavian, Hmong and Somali, which is funny because it is also the most German major metro in the country but nobody cares or really even knows about that. Even most locals here don't realize that Minneapolis is more German than Milwaukee, Cincinnati, St Louis, etc.

As a result of WW1 and WW2 many Germans became more ashamed of their ethnicity than proud of it. These ideas still persist among people who were born before the WW2. I believe that is why many people of German decent are unaware of this fact. It also might explain why Italian and Irish people still maintain a sense of their racial identity while Germans are more assimilated.

German used to be the dominant second language in America. However laws during the WW1/WW2 era stigmatized the use of the German language and now it has basically disappeared.

In NYC it has to be the Jews, even wit all the other ethnicities here. More Jews than anyplace outside Israel and many folks almost always think Jew when they think ethnic New York.
