What will you pick ? Your feedback is appreciated (best city, chapel)

Hi There, I have narrowed down these few cities to move to this summer with my family of 5. Apex/Cary NC, Johns Creek/Alpharetta GA and Southlake/Dallas suburbs TX is in my list. Now I need to pick one city and pack up and go very soon. My main criteria is good schools & good schools, higher education opportunities when kids grow up, IT jobs and good connecting airport.

I would like to get an honest opinion from all of you who actually lived in these cities. Also please share if anyone has any idea of which city/state has a better future.

-I have heard there is nothing much to do in Apex/Raleigh in comparison to Central Jersey where I live now.
-I have been to Dallas once during summer and I think I can bear the heat.
-I have enough budget to buy a SFH in any of these places so that is not an issue.
-I have a travelling job so finding the job is not an issue for me at least for now.]

What Dallas subs are you looking at?

Any suburb which has good schools and diverse population and easy ride to DFW. E.g. Allen, Southlake etc.

Allen to DFW distance is longer than Southlake to DFW and schools aren't nearly as good.

Between Raleigh and Dallas ( lived in both) I'd definitely go with DFW as the rumor about there not being much to do in the Raleigh area is VERY true. Very sleepy quiet place compared to Dallas/Southlake which ticks all your points and has lots to do.

I have lived in one of the three (Raleigh-Durham area) and really wonder about the lack of things to do comments probably stemming from those who have never lived there. Beyond the professional sports aspect offered in Dallas there's every bit as much replicated in the Raleigh-Durham area, and the outdoor recreational options blow Dallas out of the water. The climate is far better too with four actual seasons, none of which are extreme and about equally divided so when you're getting tired of one the next is coming. The schools are excellent in Apex-Cary as well as Chapel Hill-Carrboro, the IT jobs are obviously plentiful and the airport is one of the best for business travelers in my opinion as it has excellent service to varying airports minus the big city airport headaches.

I agree with this. I have lived in or near all three locations. Here's my take:

1.) Raleigh - Love this town. Not too big and not too small. Plenty of things to do (college sports/events, pro/semi-pro sports, outdoor activities). Downtown Raleigh used to have a Thursday night block party during the summer. Close to the beach, mountains and DC. Highly educated area with lots of job opportunities. I would gladly consider living there again.

2.) DFW - Lots of growth and jobs. Super hot in the summer. Usually mild winters. I have enjoyed living here, but the area is getting a bit too big and busy for my liking.

3.) Atlanta - large city with lots to do. Traffic is usually a nightmare. Born and raised there, and only return to see family. I have zero desire to live there again.

All three cities are VERY different and all three cities offer a lot. It just depends on what YOU want and what area feels most like home.

All 3 are great areas, but in order of preference for me would be 1. Dallas 2. Atlanta 3. Raleigh.

Can anyone comment on the traffic situation in Dallas ? I haven't lived in Atlanta or Dallas but is it as bad as Atlanta? Which is the best city/town in Dallas to beat the traffic to all the IT business centers (e.g. Dallas, Plano, Irving, Richardson, Arlington etc)
