If California is so beautiful then why do hoards of Californians fly up here and pour into Glacier Park every summer. Argh.

Because there are so many of them, and so many of them with money.

I know its subjective.. I like the Great Lakes.. Michigan I think is surrounded by Lake Michigan Lake Superior , Lake Huron , and Lake Erie. I like the forests and the wildlife and the rural areas in Michigan as well.

Im from Southern California so that would be my second choice. I like the beaches mainly around Ventura County (25 miles north of LA) there are awsome. The water temperature is too cold to go in until April or May without a wetsuit but I still appreciate the beach .

I think it's a tie between California and Washington. California is larger and offers more diverse landscapes, but Mt. Rainier alone is the single most beautiful thing I have ever seen.. And I see it every sunny day. Washington also offers a variety of geography and climates. For me it's a tie.
3. Oregon
4.New Mexico

I think all states have some elements of beauty, but California is tough to beat.

California
Washington
Oregon

Top 3.

Upstate NY is a total underrated gem. 95% of people think of NYC, when most don't realize what the Adirondacks are. It should be considered criminal.

Certainly Wyoming has a spectacular western edge and some other mountainous areas that are beautiful but a lot of it looks like a moonscape.

All the western states have spectacular scenery and some desolate ugly/plain looking areas.

In terms of a whole state being "pretty" I think Vermont/New Hampshire and Maine might be candidates as well as WV. North Carolina doesn't have a whole lot of ugly but some.

But the west has them all beat in terms of knock down flat out incredible scenery IMO.
