If you like LA, Lafayette or Houston is for you, their are also some great East Texas towns that are within driving distance to Louisiana. I recommend that you stay out of the Beaumont-Port Artur- Orange area as most of the twons or cities in that area aren't nice except for Nederland and a couple smaller towns.
pros- best beaches in the country (sailing, diving, fishing) amazing sea temps, best sea temps in the country by far for most of the year, mild winters and very ,very rare any ice, snow and shoveling driveways , 7a,b-11a hardiness zones for fantastic gardening from citrus to vegetables and very beautiful and lush, tons of rainfall, southern cities dominate the highest rainfall averages in the U.S. rainfall averages ,outside certain places in hawaii and a few small towns in washington. very lush and green landscape , beautiful mountains and hiking and outdoor stuff, very good charter and private schools in some of the states, beautiful architecture in the older cities and small towns like charleston, savannah, northern virginia horse country, mobile, new orleans etc. great food and seafood, booming economy for the most part and good start up culture in texas ,atlanta, research triangle area ,nashville etc, alot of booming downtowns , texas triangle seems pretty futuristic especially with the japanese bullet train project
cons -poor wages usually outside of the metros unless you are in aerospace or auto or construction or certain industries, public schools not always very well funded and sometimes really poor, too much sprawl in certain of the big cities, some awful politicians, overall not very good mass transit outside college towns and certain big metros but texas bullet train may start something interesting, not enough density in big cities but getting alot better very quickly but alot of ugly development and suburban sprawl, way too many demagogues politically, occasional really cold snaps in winter that can kill subtropical and tropical vegetation, warmer months have hurricanes and tropical storms that can be devastating, ,humid summers that bring very violent thunderstorms that can be quite ominous in the summer afternoons
I think folks in Hawaii would strongly disagree with you
Oh for heaven's sake, do people actually read the thread?
The OP already said they only listed the states they want to look into. This thread is not supposed to be about whether or not X-state is southern.
That question has been answered. Please pay attention before contributing.
I think it's fair to ask why the OP is excluding the Carolinas and VA, which I did earlier. There are areas in all three states that could work for him/her. In the absense of an answer, all I can surmise is that they aren't Southern enough for him/her.
