One can pretty clearly see a correlation between the more highly educated cities and fitness, which I would most attribute as the reason how/why it occurs as it does.

One would expect highly-educated people to read the study ( or, at least check the methodology) and realize that it's bogus. But, feel free to push whatever agenda you're trying to push.

Methodology is dumb.

The Bible Belt/Appalachia is by far the least healthy area of the US

Obesity:

Diabetes:

Smoking:

Suicide:

Cardiovascular disease:

The healthiest areas are the Northeast and California.

What you're saying doesn't contradict what he said. Similar studies with better methodologies demonstrate that same correlation.

Most of the West, not just California. Except when it comes to suicide, which is interesting.

There is, without question, a strong correlation between income/education and fitness, but I believe the OP was referring to this list.

The methodology has its flaws, but it still shows that same general correlation. His conclusion was not incorrect.

What I was getting at is , in terms of mountains , forests , cliffs and hills that people for example come from all over the world to enjoy our Adirondacks up here , you would think cities with huge outdoor play lands in their backyard would be more fit than a hustle and bustle city where everyone works 9-5 and goes and drinks the stress away . I've been to dc and was not impressed , you can walk on pavement anywhere that's not fun give me a 6 mile hike to a summit with beautiful views over a park with monuments

DC is nice in that there's both the urban walking within the city that can be interesting, large and ample amounts of parkland either sculpted with a very naturalistic or a very monumental bent, and a variety of natural landscapes not too far out from the city. Pretty good area, really.

And by going to your local LifeTime Fitness. The "least fit" cities are just those filled with lazy bums.
