Why is the line between Colorado and Kansas/Nebraska so stark? It's the middle of the plains, and it shouldn't be a clear dividing line. Unless:
1. Public health and other key risk factors are approached very differently.
2. The survey methods are different per state.

I suspect the latter, even while Colorado probably does well overall.

Walking to work or to transit is a big factor. A city where are large percentage of people can do that tends to be healthier, adjusted for other factors like income.

Gyms are good, and I'm a regular user of the one in my building. But walking everywhere is a big deal. It's not just the 30 calories used to go to the corner store and back. I suspect the bigger factor might be that walking encourages people not to get overweight, because then walking would be harder.
