I wouldn't call the states you labeled semi-Southern except West Virginia which I view as being an overall Southern state. Maryland and Delaware are southern in tiny portions of their states but are decidedly Mid-Atlantic.

I tried to fit "Lower Mid-Atlantic" in that one before the slash but it wouldn't fit.

You have states that border the Great Lakes and Canada in the "Mid Atlantic." I would either label them Northeast, or lump all mid-Atlantic states into one group not two.

Also Virginia is a mid-Atlantic state, while still keeping its southern roots/background, its kind of hard to place.

Virginia is not the Mid-Atlantic. Most of it has more in common with North Carolina than Maryland or Delaware.

I think of Virginia as Upper South.

Its Upper South, definitely. I think Mid Atlantic, though can be a hybrid. Some even refer to NC as Mid Atlantic. Its still Southern in culture.
