In NYC it's not 'Brooklyn' in general that's busy, crowded, happen in' or whatever you want to call it. Lots of Brooklyn is anything but. Williamsburg is the Brooklyn area you're probably thinking of.
And you can also add East Village and tourist standby Times Square.

I think the concept of "boroughs" is (understandably) confusing to people unfamiliar with New York since it's a pretty unique set up for an American City.
I would definitely add North Park and probably at this point South Park to San Diego. Also East Village but maybe you included that as part of downtown.
