I totally forgot about Pittsburgh. It has a multi-billion dollar terminal that was opened in the early 90s to house USAirways operations, but 9/11 and USAirways financial problems meant that service was reduced in Pittsburgh in favor of Philadelphia, which has a larger O&D population to feed from plus more corporations and business travelers. Pittsburgh was one of the first airports to have lots of restaurants and shops in the terminal (called AirMall) for passengers to kill time when they had a layover. Its design was very efficient and influential in terminal design. It's a shame the airport is a shell of its former self. Some of the concourses are walled off because there is excess gate space.

If only a similar terminal could be opened at Philadelphia for American's hub there, but the airport is too constrained by surrounding development and its location on the Delaware River.

London is likely? Where did you read that? Just curious.

Why is Denver tied for first in this poll? That was one of the worst airports I have been to.

I enjoy DFW Airport. Those moving sidewalks are convienient and its not as huge as Hartsfield.

You could have done that anywhere, no?

Agreed. What a weird set up going through security.

Might have to do with its innovative architecture and layout. I also believe a new train service connecting to downtown Denver just opened.

Perceptions of an airport are going to vary widely, especially between those visiting a hub to change planes and those using a facility to depart and arrive...

If you're just flying through Denver, you may like the airport better than if you live in Denver and have to catch a quick flight out, park in a remote or economy lot, and wait in the massive security checkpoint (though I realize that the A Line will improve things for some).

Of course, for those changing planes, the connection itself can seriously skew the perception. For example, I can't stand Detroit's setup- but mostly because every time I fly through, my connection involves me running full speed through the underground "glow tunnel" with only seconds to spare before they close the door....

Lots of my friends who travel often say that Denver Airport TSA agents tend to be jerks and pain-in-the-behind.

yes, PDX, awesome mid-sized airport with great design, easy connections, minimal delays, and excellent bars/restaurants both before and after security

also SFO, DCA, DAL (new terminal, great bars, super easy connections), DFW Terminal D, MDW - like connecting there, but less fun when departing due to security
