Besides Ogunquit, ME which has already been mentioned Portsmouth, NH and Newburyport, MA deserve a shoutout as well.
Portsmouth is on I-95 with easy access to Boston's northern burbs and other parts of NH, and Newburyport has commuter rail into the City. We just got back from Ogunquit, and the friends we've made of working age over several visits are willing to drive up to 40 minutes for a good job, which covers a lot of area across 3 States.
People seem willing to commute to live where they love in the entire area, and it's easy to understand why.
So, basically, what everyone is saying is that just about all of New England is LGBTQXRSYID friendly
No, not really. There are plenty of areas that are, but still plenty of rural areas that aren't. Where I grew up in rural New Hampshire, it's one of those things that just isn't talked about or acknowledged. Nobody is going to be all hostile to your face like they maybe would in the Evangelical South, but their attitudes toward you certainly won't be accepting. The attitude is more of tolerating but disliking rather then outright hostility.
Agree Provincetown is #1 but very much feels like a vacation town. Northampton #2. I would probably give Somerville #3, we raise the pride flag at the high school, the senior class last year voted for a leasbian couple at prom queens, oh and there was drag story time at the library recently.
