The freedoms, opportunities, and quality of life citizens of the United States enjoy are unparalleled by citizens of any other country on earth. What made this so?

Love the USA but we hardly have the best quality of life. Although freedom is an abstract concept and hard to quantify do we really have more of it than any other western democracy? In terms of opportunities I will say that the U.S does have excellent institutions of higher education and business opportunities.

I have seen this clip many times actually and I think it is a silly over-dramatization, fit for fictitious television.

Being what? Our military prowess, or the power of American corporations?

We're not number one according the UN's Human Development Index. The clip isn't incorrect when it points out that we're not number one in education. Our social mobility continues to decline, and other countries have passed us by. We're currently about on par with the UK at this point in terms of social mobility. We're not number one by general quality of life measures either. The average Americans' salary has been stagnant for decades at this point.

It's still easier to become wealthy in the US than it is in any other country in the world. The US still continues to be the best country for entrepreneurs, bar none. I don't believe social mobility is that low. Based on what?

Many European countries passed by in general mobility ages ago, not just in regards to general mobilty but also in mobility from some of the lowest economic rungs to the highest in a a country. Even the articles that highlight that social mobility in America has remained the same as it did a generation or so ago note that other countries have still passed us by. We stagnated, other countries didn't.

As for entrepreneurs, the US is a great place for them. That doesn't make it any easier for Americans in poverty to pull themselves up the social ladder. We're rapidly becoming a country of haves and have nots. The middle class continues to erode away.

That's a very dramatic word you just used. The Quality of life in the USA is among the best in the world, especially for a country our size.

Its not. What's so great about for-profit prisons and the big money donor class buying elections?
