Are there any cities that have nightlife (upscale bars/nightclubs and nice restaurants) for people 35 and up? It seems most cities offer nightlife options for college kids and 20-somethings, but I was wondering what cities might be best for middle-age folk that like to have a little fun.

Completely disagree. I haven't experienced nightlife in all of the top-20 MSAs, and I haven't even consulted the list, but I can tell you that Boston has terrible nightlife for people in their 30s. Moving there from Chicago was a BIG shock.

Off top, I'd say (in no particular order):

NYC
MIA
LA
CHI
ATL
DC
NO
LV

Well yeah, you're right about Boston as it's not big on nightlife in general, but I think it's probably the only exception among top 20 metros. Even then, I know lots of people head to nearby Providence for nightlife but I'm not sure if it skews younger or not.

I guess it depends on what you call "nightlife." Some people call having drinks and dinner with friends at a chic restaurant "nightlife."

Most people tend to shut down the party life well before 35. You're expected to have a family and stable career by that point with little to no time for the things that occupied your time in your 20s. The only place where it seems to be acceptable to run around in the streets in your 40s is NYC and maybe LA.

St. Louis has a lot of neighborhood bars that are good hangouts for the over 35 demographic. Its pretty laid back as a whole. Last call can vary depending on the area.

New Orleans too.
People from 20 to 60 will be out having drinks and eating late at night.

People often confuse all of NOLA nightlife to Bourbon St but it's not. There are plenty of neighborhood bars with live bands and strips like Frenchman St which cater to the locals.
So many upscale bars in the Warehouse District alone that cater to the "I wear a suit to work" type crowd.

I would also include Chicago.

I can't tell if this poster is being tongue in cheek or wagging his finger at us old people who like to stay out late on occasion. (Isn't that what sleepovers at grandma's are for??)

I would definitely say NYC has a vibrant nightlife scene for all ages because people tend to get married later and are not so beholden to tradition. Same with San Francisco. I'd add LA and DC to the list as well. You just have to know where to go.
