Chicago and L.A. are the endpoints of Route 66, but they're not really Route 66 cities, y'know? When I think of "Route 66" I think of more like an end-of-the-earth kind of vibe. L.A. ha some of that, I guess. Definitely not Chicago.

So, uh, I dunno. OKC?

Having been to all the cities in the list, I wouldn't consider Chicago or LA as part of the Route 66 experience.

Route 66 conjures images of desolate towns, with a gas station or two, neon lights, cheap diners, one storied motels, care free living, the sun setting over the barren horizon and easy living. Of all the towns in your list I think Amarillo, TX captures this best.
