Our family is looking to move. My husband and I were both born and raised in Louisiana. We currently live in Omaha, NE. We like the weather here. We get all four seasons and the winter is not too harsh for us southerners. We would like to move to an area with weather like Omaha but close to some hiking... either the Appalachian trail or the CDT. Any suggestions? Must have great schools!

Check out the Greater Asheville NC area and towns like Asheville itself, Canton, Hendersonville, Burnsville and Waynesville. Both Asheville and Hendersonville in particular could be good matches in that they're at lower elevations with milder winters yet still in close proximity to the mountains/recreation and have very good public schools like the rest on the list.

Budget? If you can afford to live in Denver the winters are much snowier but a smidge warmer than Omaha.

You can't go wrong with Asheville NC, Knoxville TN, or Charlottesville VA. All 3 are great areas.

Knoxville TN, Asheville NC if you can get a job are both awesome places. I love them both. I kinda miss Tennessee the people are so down to earth and amazing compared to Miami Beach FL.
