You may think this a strange question, but I've come across several "hippie" communities and they always seem to be very nice and down to earth, with low crime. Although I'm aware of the stereo types, I'd still like to hear from those of you out there that have some knowledge on this subject.

Thanks!

The Zendiks are in WV now. You can google Zendik Farm if you want to learn more.

Is that the kind of stuff you're looking for?

We have several in TN amazingly enough! The most famous/infamous is The Farm founded in 1970 or so by Stephen Gaskin known for his politics (he ran for pres!) and his time in Haight Asbury. He and 300 or so other San Frans settled the farm. I think it's population soared to over 1500 at one time but is now down to 200 give or take. Another we have is a commune of much diversity. Leaning towards lesbian/homosexual/tranny lifestyle. There has also been talk of a communal living condos being developed here in Chattanooga but I have not heard much about it lately. I have spent some time w/all sorts of ppl from all sorts of lifestyles and think that maybe communal living would be wonderful and freeing. It would be nice to not have the worries we have .... working to pay for the car, the house, the clothes that we need to go to work to pay for the car, the house, the clothes. Vicious cycle!

I've looked up info on the Zendiks ( hope I spelled that right) that was definitely interesting and I'd love to go there, but what about places that aren't necessarily communes, but maybe just have a large number in the community. I don't know that I could actually live on a commune, but I really embrace SOME of the hippie values. Organic way of life, some child rearing ideology, eco values, etc...

We have em by the truckload here in Oregon... They are nice folks, although my feeling is that they tend to be the same as everyone else; some good, some troubled. If your looking for places where the polotics are liberal and the people friendly, then Eugene/Portland/Corvallis OR would be places to check out.

Try Bethel N.Y. Evidently there are quite a few left in town (shop owners?)and the surrounding areas. You might even find a few roaming around that did not heed the warning given to all on Max Yasgurs farm in 1969 and took the "brown acid" anyway.
