I think both cities have good job opportunities. As far as living expenses, I'm not sure which city is cheaper as in the city I believe rent is expense unless you have a roomate(s) to help cut down the cost. Maybe you should apply to both schools and see if you qualify for any scholarships. That way you can also take into account tuition expenses. If money is no object, I say Boston but thats just because I love Boston with a passion. Ive only ever visited Chicago but i did like it. My response probably was not too helpful, but at least it got the ball rolling. : )
What are you looking for in the city itself? Chicago is Boston times 3. Both are great places, both are decently expensive to very expensive, both have similar weather, with Boston's winters being a little bit warmer but with more snow. If youre looking for a big-city experience, Chicago is the victor here, but not by a huge landslide. Both are great cities.
Both cities are similar enough in most respects that you will not miss much by choosing one over the other. My only suggestion is that you should choose the best school that you can get into/afford. Which ever city that it lays in, so be it.
Boston has the advantage that it is on an ocean, skiing/snowboarding is not that far away, lobster is about $15 a pound cheaper (maybe), better variety of natural beauty (real mountains, beaches, capes, etc.), and it is close to New York, and other large cities if you get bored.
I prefer Boston but that is my subjective opinion. I found Boston to be more walkable and easier to get around without a car. But, it depends on where you will work and what your likes and dislikes are. Both cities are fine in my book.
I think the bigger differences will be cultural. I think school would be a lot different on the east coast. where are you from? What are you currently used to? What does "better" mean to you?
Generally speaking, students at east coast schools can be more competitive. Chicago is a bigger city but east coast cities have a bigger attitude in my opinion.
I'm moving from Puerto Rico, looking for a totally different experience. Not only in weather, but at culture as well. I'm also looking for a job in the marketing/sales/advertising industry. Which city has better preparation in the marketing side? Where i can find better opportunities in terms of salary and professional growth?.
If you can afford it, then go for Boston. But I think you'd like both cities (I know that I do), for me though, Boston has the edge due to location and surrounding area.
^ is Boston really cleaner? I always hear over and over from many different friends that they can't believe how clean Chicago is for a big city....
