This whole thing with how liberal a place is is played out! I don't know what the big fuss is all about with liberal. They say they are soooo openminded, but there are alot of issues they are closeminded on. Religion is one, I mean how come Chistianity is so bad? If you were truly openminded, you would accept christianity instead of bashing it. Liberals are no more openminded than most conservatives. That being said, New York city is probably the most "liberal" metro in the US. To finish though, although I like NYC, if being a liberal area is so great, how come NYC is also one of the most segregated regions if liberals are soooo great?

True about liberal open mindedness vs. conservative. I think both sides of the aisle need to be a bit more open minded. That said, I believe Christianity is so hated because the loudmouths on the Christian Political Right such as Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps, James Dobson make a mockery out of it and paint all Christians with a horrible brush. There are pockets, such as Topeka, KS and Ft. Smith, AR, where the three people I mentioned have quite a following, but throughout most of the US, even Christians don't put much stock into what they say.

Socially liberal =/= alcohol and guns.

Yes, many liberals tend to be closed minded, but there are tons of liberals who are Christians. Personally I do not think that God or Jesus Christ care.

I'd be better equipped to answer this question seriously if I knew what "liberal" meant anymore in this country, if there is a meaning at all.

Awhile back on here I was told that mass transit was "liberal." How in the hell can a transit system have a political view?

To comment on mass transit: well it is simple; mass transit will be 'for the people' and anything 'for the people' is pinko commie garbage. Plus it will raise taxes, which apparently is what liberals love to do. Also, it will probably be used by the poor, and working class. Everyone knows that, aside from raising taxes, liberals also love the poor, probably because it gives them another excuse to raise more taxes.

When you figure it out let me know. I ride the subway every day, and if I were to embody it with any social leanings it would be that of a despotic misanthrope, given the way it usually treats me

ie not blue collar urban democrats
more like college educated urbanites

social= gay marriage, abortion, birth control
fiscal= taxes, outsourcing etc
