It is indeed very sad to see a once great state faltering like this. I think if it wasn't for the rapid growth of the Poconos, PA overall would be stagnant.

Central Missouri. The accent quickly fades when you get out of the Southern Missoui ozarks, but you can still here it up into central Missouri.

AQUEMINI331 - may I be so bold to ask if you are speaking of the African American populations of Chicago and Detroit? Because that is something I've noticed among the African American populations of both of those cities, which isn't all that surprising given the historical roots of said populations, I know several people who, despite growing up on the south-side of Chicago, spent summers with southern relatives, but this is not so much the case amongst the white populations of said cities.

Southeast Nebraska/northwest Missouri, maybe southern Iowa a little. Southern Missouri seems to be last place you hear it commonly.

I've been told that I have a slight southern drawl and I grew up in Western PA, only an hour south of Lake Erie. I think it's an Appalachia thing...

Since we learned how to use a map and drive a car, we Southerners just go all over the place anymore. LOL Sorry, I just couldn't resist! I love this forum.

Yeah, that's what I probably heard when I was there. Kind of a country twang, I think. Not really southern. It's similar in parts of Kansas and Missouri.
