The biggest sport in the Northeast are by far and away Basketball Hockey and Lacrosse. By far by far.

Very, very true! I have lived in the Philadelphia area for most of my life, and the Lehigh Valley for some of my college career. In the Lehigh Valley, the biggest sporting event of the year is the annual Thanksgiving Easton vs Phillipsburg, NJ HS football game. Liberty HS in Bethlehem has one of the largest football stadiums I have ever seen for a HS team. Down in the Philly area, I went to Catholic high school in Delaware County back in 2013. The Catholic league games always garnered lots of attention. Cardinal O'Hara (my alma mater! #COnation) vs Mosignor Bonner was and is still the biggest, most fierce rivalry in Delco.

Lacrosse is spotty in its popularity. It seems to be popular in parts of upstate NY and in suburban Maryland but in large areas of PA in between it's not even recognized. That would be an interesting thread to see what counties have high school lacrosse, and which colleges.

Yeah, it seems like the Philly area is the only PA area where Lacrosse is big.

NY may be the only state in the Northeast where the sport is popular throughout the state, to some degree. Long Island(Sections 8 and 11) is another Lacrosse hotbed, as is the Syracuse/CNY(Section 3)area. Select Upstate programs in other regions/sections of the state like Orchard Park, Hamburg, Victor, Penn Yan, Irondequoit, Yorktown, Bronxville, Corning, Ithaca, Vestal, Akron, Salmon River, Canton, Canandaigua, Niskayuna, Silver Creek, John Jay(East Fishkill) and a few others are pretty good most years. I think there are even select NYC public high schools that have programs now and the Syracuse City program(combo of 5 HS's) may be the most competitive truly urban program in the state.
