For St. Louis, we did the opposite of New York. The city and county separated forming two different entities. This was well before all the highways were built that allowed urban sprawl. It was this sprawl that lead to everyone fleeing the city for cheaper housing further out. If the city and country were to merge we would be a city of about 1.3 million. That would include some less dense areas, though. Ideally, I would like to see everything within out 270 beltway become the city proper, and outside of that suburban municipalities.

However, the county today has 91 municipalities, and there is much opposition to merging the two.

I'd split Albuquerque up into three parts, Central, Northeast, and West Side. This city has over 540,000 in the city limits (more than Atlanta) but it's downtown would indicate and feel like a city of 150,000 or so.

I'd add East Orange, Orange, Bloomfield and Irvington to Newark

Ideally Newark would absorb its Essex County/ suburbs as was the original plan
