I was there this past December to celebrate being done with finals just before the holidays. I wore a short sleeve shirt to the bars because it was so warm. Just checked. It must have been December 13, 2015 because the high was 64 and it was raining on that day. I do remember it raining a bit while I was there, and I remember not having to pack a winter coat. As for wearing a short sleeve shirt to the bars, I'm always hot and I hate wearing long sleeve shirts in bars and being a bit chilly for a few minutes is better than carrying around a jacket in a club/bar IMO.
Last winter was very mild. If every winter was like that, Chicago would be 50% bigger.
However, that was not a normal winter.
Lest we forget the polar vortex winter that was only what, 4 years ago? We had many sub zero days, and a few days where the non-wind chill temperature was below -10, and the wind chill was in the -40 range. And we had about 70 inches of snow.
That was also an anomaly.
But to say Chicago doesn't get cold anymore is simply not true.
Worst climate is a tough question. Maybe Fargo? Buffalo?
While PHX has horrible heat for very long stretches and I do not like that climate, it has 6 or 7 very good months and can't imagine saying it's the worst climate in the country.
Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Tampa, and New Orleans. All far too hot with a latitude that is far too low, resulting in a brutal sun angle with a harshness that never goes away. No thanks..
BS.. all these have wonderful weather now, especially Tampa, Miami and NO.. clear days low 60s-upper 70s..it will remain like that until April-May.. hardly the worst weather in the country.

December 13 is fall not winter.
Visit from January 15 - February 15 when it's cloudy, windy, snowy and everything outside is frozen solid 24 hours a day.
If you're someone who really dislikes snow, understandable.
I don't think the majority of people would say the same, though. There are many much colder and yet still snowy cities in the Upper Midwest.
Syracuse, Buffalo, Fargo, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Rochester, Youngstown and Juneau, Alaska all look balmy compared to Hurley, Wisconsin.
Average high in January is 19 F.
Average low in January is 0 F.
Average annual snowfall is 165 inches.
Record low temperature is minus -36 F
BS.. all these have wonderful weather now, especially Tampa, Miami and NO.. clear days low 60s-upper 70s..it will remain like that until April-May.. hardly the worst weather in the country.
Terrible climate areas, too far south with a sun angle that is unbearable for me.
I prefer Saranac Lake climate over Syracuse, it's like having a Nordic outpost in the US similar to Scandinavia.
