Hi,

I have read many threads and posted many about small towns and have had great responses. Soo many options. Trying to narrow down the potentials.

I have lived in the PNW my whole life. My favorite place was living in Bellingham. I love the college town liberal vibe. What I would change is COL, add snow, and smaller population would be ideal. Any towns come to mind?

Perhaps Plattsburgh NY:

SUNY Plattsburgh

Clinton Community College

Its location also allows for trips to Montreal(an hour or so away) or to Burlington VT, with an option to use a ferry: Lake Champlain Ferries

Thanks ckhthankgod! You have given me so many options on all my threads. I have looked at many of the other options you have suggested. Upstate has too many good choices! Thanks for narrowing it down for me

Thanks Nn2036. It seems that Boulder is bigger and more expensive than Bellingham. But Boulder looks like a wonderful place.

No problem and it seriously may be the best bet not only in NY State, but the Northeast in terms of affordability, a college presence, snowfall, near water and mountains, proximity to bigger areas and while I don't know if I'd say that it is "liberal", it did have an openly gay mayor not that long ago. It also has seen growth in its manufacturing sector and it had population gains in between 2000 and 2010. Plattsburgh(city) has about 20,000 people and if you include the town of Plattsburgh, the population goes up to about 32,000 or so. It was a former Air Force town and that brought some degree of cultural diversity to the area. It doesn't have a high of an Asian, Hispanic or Native American population as Bellingham, but it has a higher Black population and some of the other groups as well mainly in the city of Plattsburgh.

I don't know if it is relevant, but those in the city go to Plattsburgh City Schools, but those in the town can go to either Peru, Saranac Central or Beekmantown for schools. There are also private/catholic schools from Pre K-12th grade. Plattsburgh City School District

Burlington, VT is a college town with a smaller population and an average of 75" of snow. Having said that, it's not particularly cheap...
