Virginia is 100% absolutely Southern. Not as "Dixie" Southern like much of Georgia though.

The finest landscapes in the east are from NC to Maryland.

VA is the prettiest, IMO. The federal style of architecture complements the land beautifully. I really prefer costal VA to coastal NC too, though it is certainly true that NC beaches are much nicer. I like the broad rivers and bays of VA. The banks are rolling and sandy and the water is blue. The whole region seems well drained, not a lot of standing, black water (except for the extreme southern areas of VA Beach and Chesapeake). The towns and cities are pretty too (typical sprawl notwithstanding).

NC is a very, very close second.

KY third

VA and NC are pretty far ahead of the pack (as the poll suggest) but the South is pretty beautiful. MS, Al, SC are all gorgeous.

I say Virginia or N.Carolina. Both are incredibly beautiful.
