Love Roanoke VA. Only issue is doesn't seem like much in regards to work in the health care field. Any quiet Appalachian college towns with a decent job market in the Healthcare field?

Appreciate the feedback.

What about places like Morgantown WV, Harrisonburg VA, Blacksburg/Christianburg/Radford VA and perhaps Boone NC and Johnson City TN?

Knoxville and Huntsville best Roanoke in many ways. Great economies, and growing health care sectors. I have heard good things about Morgantown as well, but not sure if the job opportunities are there.

I was born in the Southwestern part of VA...about 2 hours SW of Roanoke on I81. If you want something similar to Roanoke, but not Roanoke...I'd look at JC, TN or Knoxville, TN.

In my experience from looking, college towns will generally have lesser opportunities in most professional fields because new graduates often stay and compete for jobs. Thus, both advertised opportunity and wages tend to depress. Charlottesville is a good example of this.

Though, the relative truth of my assertion also depends on what you do exactly.
