What States do you feel has the most forest per acreage and the less urban development in the Continental United States?
I think this has been covered previously, but Maine is the most forested state in the US in percentage terms, >85% of total land area. Urban development is generally concentrated in Portland metro area and a few other smaller cities. Population densities in the rural counties in Maine generally average between 4-50 people per square mile with Knox County and Lincoln County being outliers along the coast with higher rural populations.
I know this thread was on forest acreage but interested in what is the data on tree canopy for cities and not just states?
This is what I did from a quick google search, these are just bigger cities it seems. I have seen smaller cities in north carolina with a much larger tree canopy than Atlanta but Atlanta is a very forested city for sure
City Tree Cover (%)
Atlanta, GA 36.7
Houston, TX 30.0
Austin, TX 34.0
Boston, MA 29.0
Dallas, TX 28.0
