The more I see pictures of New York the more I believe that it's gotta be one of the most underrated and I don't mean NYC obviously although I'm sure it has its share. I wonder what the small towns in New York are really like..

...Awesome. I highly recommend the state parks.

As for underrated beauty, I would also include WV which isn't on the list.

This list is terrible.

IMO, the most underrated states for natural beauty are the following:

Oklahoma - Ouchita National Forest is so beautiful with amazing views and scenery; beautiful rolling plains
Arkansas - Ouchita National Forest, Ozarks, Eureka Springs, Hot Springs, etc.
Michigan - The Upper Peninsula is BEAUTIFUL
Alabama & Mississippi - beautiful flora, some hills in the north and the Gulf Coast
Nebraska - beautiful rolling plains and greenery

IMO of course.

IMO the most overrated are North Carolina and Florida. They're still beautiful in their own regard, but some people act like they're paradise.

In this poll for underrated beauty, I would go with New York. I don't think people immediately think of NY State as being beautiful because the City (which is beautiful in a different way) gets much of the glory and attention. But the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes, Niagara....etc., etc. it's a place of tremendous beauty, geographic and ecological diversity.

Really, on the whole, NJ takes a beating in the beauty department. While not remotely the most beautiful state, the Pine Barrens and the Jersey coastal areas are worthy of some praise. State really gets none whatsoever.

New Jersey belongs in this poll for certain and not exactly sure why Virginia is on the list as it's easily among the better half of the 50 states.
