Arizona, North Dakota and South Carolina.

NY and NJ are hideous. WI is bad too.

That sounds very cool, wish some states would bring that concept back.

Yes, this and what HD says above. I have the white and blue NY plates that are getting long on the tooth but keep renewing them as the new one's simply disgust me. I think the powers that be attempted to reverse the colors of the old World's Fair plate of the 60's with the yellow/mustard color field and blue letters. The field color to me, and please excuse the graphic take on it, can only be described as someone having the runs after eating too much butternut squash...

A lot of the Indians in Downeast Maine have this plate.

If you are a Native American you might appreciate the design of the Canadian Northwest Territories plate, it is the one plate I am aware of that is cut into the shape of the symbol it represents (in this case a bear). The newer designs (post 2010 I believe) are really cool with additional artwork. There was even a souvenir plate in the shape of a bear with the Aurora Borealis as the field. Lots of green color, which is my favorite.

Below is the Google image page for the NWT bear plates if you care to peruse...

South Carolina's plate was my absolute favorite, with the orange and blue colors, but sadly, I hear it is to be replaced.

My next favorite is Alabama. Easy to read and good use of colors. http://revenue.alabama.gov/motorvehi...tandard5yr.jpg

Least favorites:

Ohio...why did they decide to go to this horribly designed plate. For one, you cannot even read the gray shadow words on the plate and it looks tacky. I much preferred the "beautiful Ohio plate released in 2010.

Georgia...hard to read and way too much on the plate.

The blue New Mexico plate is beautiful. I like the solid yellow one too.

The ugliest plate is Virginia. It's literally just all white with VIRGINIA in blue basic font letters. UGLY!

When I lived in Georgia, we had the option of picking that atrocity of a license plate or a plain one. I selected the plain version:

The font is odd and the plate is flat, but there was no way in hell I was going to put that other one on my car.

It looks marginally better when they added "Virginia is For Lovers" on the bottom, but there are a lot of specialty license plates in Virginia for a good reason. I've seen a lot of the 'Don't Tread on Me' version that looks odd with the snake and orange-yellow color, but I understand...

I like the autumn leaves version of Virginia's plates better:

Most of those look too busy and somewhat gaudy to me. I prefer plain looking, yet beautiful license plates. Modern minimalistic I guess.

^^^ The year on that tag looks suspicious. is it supposed to be (20)11? The '1's look different.

I like that 'Save our Seas' Florida plate!
