Texas a few years ago, changed the basic plate to an ALL TIME dull white backing with black lettering! I heard they went away from the colorful design because toll road electronic readers (no booths anymore) had trouble picking up plates for non-tag owners. Now the vanity "Black" plate looks as good any anywhere!

It may be worth pointing out that the colors of the New Mexico license plate which are the colors on the state flag, yellow and red, are meant to represent the flag of Spain, commemorating our political origins as a territory of that country.

Texas Vanity plates are great! What I've seen here and nowhere else are the plates for various colleges in school colors, including those not located in Texas like Florida, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Colorado.

The Northwest Territories license plate is probably the coolest I have seen because of it's unusual shape.

Quebec's and Minnesota's license plates are also interesting.

As a New Mexican, I appreciate the props for our plates, yellow or turquoise. But, honestly? The winner, hands down, may I present: Northwest Territories.

Dude, it's a bear. And it's spectacular.
