Because I read the NYTimes and watch MSNBC far more than I probably should, my brain automatically goes to politics when I read these kind of lists. Still very interesting nonetheless.

It does play a factor, though. Education is the best cure for ignorance. And more educated people make for a better and stronger economy.
I assume this map is radically changed by transplants, and is not a reflection of the "natives" of the state?
For instance, I have heard from several Oregonians that their public school system is not the best, yet they are ranked 13th, which is great. Is that because of all the transplants with degrees moving in?
