Because I read the NYTimes and watch MSNBC far more than I probably should, my brain automatically goes to politics when I read these kind of lists. Still very interesting nonetheless.

I am confused how Colorado has such a low university quality rating. CU Boulder, CSU, Colorado School of Mines, etc. are all great colleges.

I suspect it has something to do with the Taxpayers Bill of Rights and Colorado's woefully low funding for higher education.

If Washington DC was on this list then it would probably be number one

Florida's Quality of Education rank is 3rd ahead of states like Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and New York....I stopped reading after that.

It does play a factor, though. Education is the best cure for ignorance. And more educated people make for a better and stronger economy.

It's interesting to see where the large drops in total score are like the one from New Jersey to New York or from Idaho to Texas.

I assume this map is radically changed by transplants, and is not a reflection of the "natives" of the state?

For instance, I have heard from several Oregonians that their public school system is not the best, yet they are ranked 13th, which is great. Is that because of all the transplants with degrees moving in?
