Hi,

I am looking for suggestions for a fairly warm place all year round. Not too expensive, low crime, walkable. Good job availability for someone without a degree, office related interest. A great place to raise a family as I would like to foster or adopt. I need to get away from the cold.

Probably Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is fairly warm year round, not too expensive, low crime, walkable, good job availability.

Jax has a reputation for crime and I guess as a whole it's deserved, but for many it doesn't really affect us. It's one of the cheapest "big" cities to live in and has a strong and diverse employment base. Also is often considered a great place to raise a family (in a negative way...meaning boring for young singles) and it's pretty warm for about 48 weeks out of the year. Walkability is iffy...there are a few places that are decent but they're quasi-isolated and the biking/transit infrastructure isnt great.

Atlanta, Dallas and Houston are possibilities as well. Probably plenty of small towns that could work but I'm not familiar with most of them.

If you want truly warm weather year round, but without being expensive, you are looking at peninsular Florida, ideally Gainesville, Orlando or Tampa; Corpus Christi, TX; or Phoenix, AZ. Los Angeles and San Diego would be out most likely due to cost

Orlando is actually quite expensive for those without a degree as the average one bedroom apartment rents for around $1000 a month and the median salary is around 25K a year. Tampa is a bit better but not much.
If the OP is looking for a truly lower cost of living along with job possibilities I would recommend second tier metro areas like Columbia SC (can get a little chilly in winter though), Cape Coral-Fort Myers FL, Ft Walton Beach-Destin FL, Mobile-Gulf Shores AL or larger metros like Jacksonville, Houston and San Antonio.

Southern NM is not too expensive.

Las Cruces and Alamogordo have relatively warm weather year round.
